How to Clean a Juicer After You Use It

By RawLifeFlow • Updated September 2026

The easiest time to clean a juicer is right after you finish juicing.

Fresh pulp is easier to rinse away before it dries onto the filter, screen, chute, lid and pulp container.

Always follow the cleaning instructions for your specific juicer. The steps below are a general routine for many home juicers.

Step-by-Step Cleaning

  1. Turn Off and Unplug the Juicer

Switch the machine off and unplug it before taking it apart.
Never immerse the motor base or electrical components in water.
  2. Remove the Detachable Parts

Carefully remove the components designed to come apart. Depending on the juicer, these may include:
    • food pusher
    • chute or lid
    • juice bowl
    • filter or screen
    • auger
    • pulp container
    • juice container
Check your manufacturer's manual if you are unsure how a component should be removed.
  3. Empty the Pulp

Remove the pulp before it dries. Depending on the ingredients and your preferences, some pulp can be reused in cooking, soups, baked foods or composting.
  4. Rinse Removable Parts

Rinse pulp and juice residue from removable parts under running water. Pay particular attention to corners, channels and areas where fibers collect.
  5. Clean the Filter or Screen

The fine filter is one of the most important components to clean thoroughly. Use the cleaning brush supplied with your machine, or another brush appropriate for the filter, to gently remove fibers from the small openings. A clogged screen can affect future juicing performance. Do not use abrasive tools unless supported by the specific manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Wash According to the Manufacturer's Instructions

Wash removable components with the method recommended by the manufacturer. Some juicer components may be dishwasher-safe. Others should be hand-washed. Do not assume a component can go in the dishwasher simply because it is removable.
  7. Wipe the Motor Base

Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe exterior splashes from the motor housing. Do not place the motor base in water.
  8. Dry Before Reassembling

Allow components to dry completely before storing or reassembling the machine. This also gives you an opportunity to inspect the filter, seals and other components for trapped residue.

Not all juicer parts are dishwasher-safe. Some components may be dishwasher-safe while others should be hand-washed. Always check your manufacturer's instructions before placing any part in the dishwasher, and never immerse the motor base in water.

Make Cleaning Part of the Juicing Routine

A useful sequence is:

Juice → pour → rinse → drink.

That quick rinse before you sit down can prevent five minutes of easy cleaning from turning into a harder job later. For the bigger picture, see our guide to build a juicing habit.

Before Your Next Juice

Fresh produce should also be handled carefully. Wash fruits and vegetables under running water before cutting or juicing them. The FDA does not recommend using soap or household detergent to wash produce. For more, see the FDA produce safety guidance.
